A West-End staple since it moved into the Cambridge Theatre at the end of 2011, Matilda The Musical is finally heading out on a UK tour next year – and here’s where and when you can see it.
Created by Dennis Kelly and comedian Tim Minchin for the RSC, initially under the direction of Matthew Warchus (now head honcho of The Old Vic), Matilda The Musical has firmly planted itself high on the list of best shows of the decade. It walked away with a Tony and a bucketful of Oliviers during the 11/12 Awards season, and has charmed audiences on both sides of the Atlantic over the last seven years.
A show about children, but definitely not just for children, Matilda offers up a raucous mix of exuberance and youthful bombast cut through with some genuinely touching and poignant songs and lovely staging. It boasts at least three stone-cold classic set-pieces, including this one, and pretty much guarantees all the family will be entertained.
The long-anticipated touring production of the show will be making its way around the UK early next year. Here are the dates and venues.
