Where can I see Beautiful The Carole King Musical on tour?

Beautiful The Carol King Musical Tour

Beautiful – The Carole King Musical is on tour during 2017 and 2018, here is where you can see it.

If you’re going to do a jukebox musical, Beautiful proves that it pays to get the best damn jukebox you can find.

Ostensibly the life-story of Tin-pan Alley songwriter-turned pop superstar, Carole King, Beautiful interweaves its subject’s impeccable back catalogue of songs – some written alone, many in partnership with ex-husband and lyricist Jerry Goffin – to produce a suitably nostalgic Tapestry, if you’ll allow the terrible pun.

It’s not all King (or even Goffin/King) tunes, though, there are interlopers among the selections. Most notable are the contributions from her New York songwriting frenemies Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, and a scene-setting medley of Phil Spector-era pop hits. Narratively, however, the focus is definitely centred around King and her progression from one-half of a successful songwriting partnership but ultimately troubled relationship, through her move – both literally and spiritually – from East- to West-coast, and on to her transformation into a singer-songwriter and a star in her own right.

If you are a fan of King, will know the story and – of course – love the tunes. If you’re not a fan of King, you probably will be by the time you leave – and, let’s face it, the story won’t matter so much ‘cause you’ll be humming the tunes all the way home.
