Mrs Doubtfire is finally on her way to Broadway

Beloved ’90s comedy Mrs Doubtfire is being adapted for the stage, with the film being turned into a Broadway musical by the team behind Something Rotten!.

Tony winner Jerry Zaks will direct the show, based on the film which was itself based on Anne Fine’s novel, Alias Madame Doubtfire. John O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick have penned the book while Kirkpatricks Karey and Wayne are responsible for music and lyrics.

Producers Kevin McCollum and Bob Cohen said in a joint statement: “Mrs Doubtfire is such a beloved story, both laugh-out-loud hilarious and extremely moving. Getting this team together and crafting Mrs Doubtfire for the stage has been pure jy. We can’t wait to get into production.”

In 2015, it was announced that Alan Menken, David Zippel and Harvey Fierstein would be behind the project, but it has taken an entirely new team to make it a reality.
